COLLAGE COLLECTION
“My collage work revolves around themes of displacement and migration; the idea of home. They're words that feel profound and real to me, and representative of situations and changes throughout my life. They're ideas that affect me on a micro: displacement in the form of living between countries, childhood trauma and the breakup of family, separation within my own marriage, the shifting nature of parenthood, the jarring internal shifts that occur from familial loss. They’re ideas that affect me on a macro level: A sense of safety, unity and connectivity - aspects which have seemed so fractured to me within the context of my life and within the history of my people as a result of our collective trauma and African-American experience.”
